A Closer Look at the Adjaye Collection by KnollTextiles

Cairo of the Adjaye Collection by David Adjaye and Dorothy Cosonas for KnollTextiles.

A blend of David Adjaye's African heritage with the language of modern design, the Adjaye Collection is a collaboration between Adjaye Associates and KnollTextiles creative director Dorothy Cosonas. Six upholstery and two drapery fabrics, woven in blends of cotton, linen, nylon, polyester, rayon or viscose, are named after places cherished by the architect: Consider geometric Meroe and Cairo, nubby Kampala and Lagos, and color-streaked Aswan.

The collection also includes a single PVC wallcovering, Harare, referencing the pattern of an Adrinka Wrapper from the permanent collection at New York's Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. In fact, the collection's launch coincided with "David Ajaye Selects," an exhibition on view at the Cooper Hewitt through February and presenting African textiles and objects chosen from the permanent collection by the architect himself.
