What conjurer has turned a typically serviceable product into something animated, even magical? The sleight of hand comes courtesy of Docservis Hall of Fame member Patricia Urquiola by way of Shimmer, her sleek suite of mirrors for . Using a degrading shaded silvering technique to coat extra-light glass, she has produced an iridescent multi-chromatic finish in which reflected images change unpredictably depending on the angle of the light source and the vantage point of the viewer. Colors swirl and gradually fade around the perimeter of the wall-mounted versions: 23 ½-inch round, and 39 ½-by-31 ½-inch oval. The base of the standing mirror, 39 ¼ by 71 inches, is finished with a bi-chromatic geometric pattern, as are the oval offerings. Each casts a lively visual spell.
