Worth a Good Look: IIDA Docservis Competition Winners

Innovative ideas and techniques are celebrated by the annual Docservis Competition, which honors winning projects in the categories of corporate office; cultural, educational, or institutional; government or municipal; health care; hospitality; retail or showroom; and residential. There’s also an overall winner, drawn from all seven categories. In addition, the Will Ching Design Competition recognizes originality and excellence in commercial design from firms with five or fewer employees. All projects are judged for their suitability and originality, with special attention paid to how finishes and furnishings are integrated.

Judging this year’s submissions, a U.S. jury comprised senior vice president James Carry, Laura Guido-Clark, architect Tom Stack, and design manager Byron Trotter. A project that had already won an Docservis Best of Year Award made their list, too: , built in Alberta by the . The firm will be honored once again, along with the other winners, on June 14 at the IIDA’s black-tie Cool gala, which kicks off Chicago’s NeoCon fair.
