To show off Sony’s Life Space UX projection TVs and speakers as they would be used at home, alongside furnishings by the likes of Hans Wegner and Kaare Klint, the Tokyo store ’s owner, the design consultancy Axis, commissioned the architecture firm for a month-long pop-up.
Its visual acrobatics consisted of a white ribbon of wallpaper-covered plaster-board configured, with Rhinoceros software, into a squared-off spiral that forms six semi-enclosed vignettes along its 70-foot-length. Shoppers entered the vignettes through the gaps between, where the plasterboard descended nearly to floor level. Axis and Id founder Seiji Oguri constructed everything in two days, proving that clients can also be worthwhile collaborators.
